This letter is to all of the people in our area that have been fighting tooth and nail to keep environmentally sound wind farms out. We are hungry for energy, which has resulted in the drill baby drill attitude. Well I have some very good news for you.

They are giving away free oil in Louisiana. Put some 55-gallon barrels in the back of the pickup and head south. This oil is free for the scooping-no limit. It's sunny down there, so wipe some of that SPF 5000 sunblock lapping around your feet, on your face. Make sure you have all of the oysters, clams, shrimp, grouper, snapper and catfish you can consume.

Stop eating while you can still drive. Pull out your fireplace insert and put in a smudge pot that can burn your free oil. Relax in your easy chair while the toxins work. Be confident that you have done everything in your power to prevent clean energy

P’burg, Ecogen must settle differences

Prattsburgh, NY — After much thought and consideration, my wife and I have decided we only feel comfortable commenting on our own personal experiences with life in Prattsburgh. In 1987 we bought property on the top of west hill solely as a weekend retreat to escape the hustle and bustle of Rochester. When we purchased our property it was just open land, and our shelter was limited to tent camping. We enjoyed the peace, and beauty of this area so much, and the escape it provided, that as money was available we started building.
Initially, it was again just intended as a weekend retreat, however over the years we met more and more folks here, and many of them have become treasured friends. Among these treasured friends, some are weekenders, some have recently moved here, and some have been here for generations. Many of these friends, have made herculean efforts to help us, and make us feel welcome. These folks know who they are, and know we will be eternally grateful for the amazing assistance they have given us.
As time passed and retirement neared, we decided that our property here, AND, the Prattsburgh community, was where we wanted to be. Once that decision was made, we've focused our time, energy and available resources on getting our weekend retreat to a point where it could be our home. Obviously, making this our home was a big decision, and in large part was made based on the wonderful folks we now call friends.
While we are not convinced about the validity of “Global Warming,” it has always seemed logical to us that if you can produce energy without consuming fossil fuels, which certainly runs the risk of harming the atmosphere, then why wouldn’t you? It’s just common sense.
The location of our property, has blessed us with the ability to utilize both wind and solar. As with everything here at our new home, it sprang from humble beginnings, and has grown more sophisticated over the years. With a few more upgrades and improvements, we will be at a point where we’ll be producing enough to fully power our home.
As I mentioned, the location of our property has blessed us with the ability to utilize both wind (2,000+ feet elevation, and solar (full sun all day). There are a lot of locations where that is not the case, and so obviously the viability of these environmentally friendly power sources is just not feasible, or at least cost effective. This is where we feel that large wind turbine farms, can play a vital role. The power produced by the large non-polluting wind turbines goes into the grid, and therefore is accessible by all folks who either by choice -or necessity - are tied to the grid. While we are in favor of large scale wind power, we also feel strongly that it should be implemented in a manor which does not produce negative effects to people’s lives, meaning close enough that they result in unacceptable noise, or vibration levels in people’s homes.
The tax rates in New York state are among the highest in our great country, and are continually rising. These high taxes are bringing many folks to the breaking point, the income and tax reliefs that the wind farm would bring, are vital to their survival.
It is with this in mind, that (as I recently expressed to one of Town Board members), that we are praying that the Prattsburgh Town Board, and Ecogen can quickly resolve the ongoing litigation, and the project can move forward. The income and tax relief is critical to a lot of folks here. The support at the state, and federal level of wind power is well documented, and were concerned that after spending a huge amount of our Prattsburgh tax dollars to fight this litigation, that either at the state, or federal level, the wind farm is pushed through anyway. Win the battle, and lose the war.
